Our Story

In 2018, my sister-in-law and Mountain Juice WV co-founder Amy Smith, a breast cancer survivor, had been faithfully juicing since undergoing cancer treatment in 2013. Her inspiration was a young woman Kris Carr (like Amy, she was born in 1971 and was diagnosed with cancer in her thirties and early forties). Amy inspired me to learn more and start juicing greens and other fresh produce. I instantly loved the way it made me feel. My skin began to "glow", I had more energy and mental clarity, and I was immediately hooked! No one at that particular time was making fresh raw green juice in the Charleston, WV area. Both Amy and I researched the ultra healthy benefits and disease fighting properties of a plant-based diet and, specifically, raw green juice. We spent most of 2018 gaining insight, putting systems in place, and testing and perfecting our recipes. We "opened our doors" on New Year's Day 2019 to share our love of this healthy lifestyle choice with our Charleston community. We were so grateful and quickly amazed at how well our new business "fit" into our community and how our customers received and supported what we did. It all started with Amy, her quest to eat healthy plant-based foods, and her inspiration was Ms. Carr. This is Kris's story.

Kris Carr (born August 31, 1971) is an author and wellness activist. She documented her battle against epithelioid hemangioendothelioma in her documentary film Crazy Sexy Cancer. She wrote New York Times bestsellers Crazy Sexy Diet and Crazy Sexy Kitchen, focusing on plant-based eating.

 Sisters-in-law and co-founders, Amy Smith and Lisa Smith, were born in Charleston, WV. They appreciate Charleston, its people and its opportunities.  Lisa transitioned to full owner-operator status in the spring of 2022. She believes Mountain Juice Co. is a reflection of what our city is becoming once again - healthy and thriving.

 Mountain Juice Co. is a Weekly Monday Juicery (with a mobile component "honk for juice"), located in Charleston, WV. 

We strongly believe that a simple green juice, made with raw and locally sourced produce, can positively impact your overall health and wellness. 

In an effort to help people in our Charleston, WV community feel better, we proudly provide uncomplicated and delicious - simple, raw, green juice.

Established in January 2019, we use a certified commercial kitchen provided by Trinity Lutheran Church at 1600 Kanawha Blvd East. 

Cold-pressed Mountain Juice recipes (and Vegan Bowls) are made fresh each Monday morning for afternoon pick up. 

In the fall of 2021, with the help of a small business Charleston, WV grant program, we purchased a mobile food truck. Our white van “Honk For Juice!” allows us to be more present in the community and offer healthy vegan options at area events and locations. 

More Locations? 

Our local online pick-up customers are constantly seeking more convenient ways to get our juice and other pre-made plant-based options. Previously, since 2021, we provided wholesale juice to three local vendors, including The Purple Onion (inside the Capitol Market). Unfortunately, under federal law, raw juice manufacturers (such as Mountain Juice) are not permitted to sell wholesale. FDA states that raw juice can only be sold direct-to-consumer via retail, pick-up or delivery.  We are coming up with creative and safe alternatives. Stay tuned and thank you for your patience and continued support.  

The bulk of our business is direct-to-consumer! We encourage our customers to pre-order online for Monday pick-up, guaranteeing they get exactly what they want, including supplemental add-ons, fresh off the press! We have added our popular Vegan SuperFood Bowls, in air-tight containers, to our online menu.  Now our customers have more options to plan ahead for a healthy, easy meal prep for days.  

Mountain Juice Co. is a socially conscious and civic-minded business.  We understand the importance of community collaboration, giving back, and leaving the place we live and work better than before.  Part of our mission and long-term business objective is to foster innovative and collaborative relationships with like-minded businesses and organizations.  We appreciate the altruistic, practical and common-sense solutions that are nurtured with our partnerships.
